(Your Brain on Vision Boards)It may seem like we just coincidentally stumble upon insights or with sheer luck run into a great contact, but it’s the reticular activation system of your brain (RAS) that actually makes you more attuned to conversations or news or memories or people that bring you solutions and open up possibilities to bring you to your desired destination.  The magic of visualization is actually the work of the RAS! It IS making your dreams come true. How? There is scientific proof that indicates that when you visualize and focus on the outcome you desire, what you are doing is activating the powerful subconscious reticular activation system in your brain. The RAS acts like a 24/7 super-sleuth, monitoring all the input your senses provide, searching your memory, and mustering your imagination to connect the dots and bring together the picture you are focused on.

Master sorter, filer, and alerter

The RAS enhances your non-conscious mind’s ability to sift through the 400 billion bits of information it is taking in every second and find and hold onto the valuable insights you need to make the best connections among those insights to produce the results desired–just like the Internet’s search engines. Have you experienced the phenomenon of suddenly seeing many of the very car—same make and model—that you just decided you may want to buy? You drive 50 miles every day and you swear you’ve never seen one of these great sports cars but all of a sudden they’re everywhere! The truth is you just didn’t notice them before. They’ve been all over the road since they’ve been available, but your RAS didn’t bring that information to your conscious awareness until you imprinted the message that you were going to get that car.

Fact or fiction? Does it matter?

The RAS does not distinguish between real life and the imagined. It trusts whatever message you give it. If you focus on the reality of your undesirable financial situation or overweight body your RAS will keep sending you only the information to keep you in that space. So instead, photoshop your face onto the image of your dream figure and focus on that for a while each day. You’ll be amazed at how you’ll begin to notice opportunities that not only are going to get you that figure or that better financial picture, but you will fall into it naturally.

Keep it positive!

Successful sports players use visualization and affirmations all the time to see themselves scoring the goal or taking the prize. Napoleon Hill said that we can achieve any realistic goal if we stay focused on that specific thing and avoid any negativity about it. And he cautioned, if we think that we can’t achieve a goal, our subconscious will help us NOT achieve it. Don’t use the word “don’t” or think in terms of “not.” Instead, restate your desired reality in the positive. If you repeat “I am not poor,” your subconscious only hears “I am poor.” This is another reason why there is so much emphasis on staying positive. As you focus on a photo representing your financial abundance, say “I am wealthy” instead. Positive affirmations can powerfully reinforce your visualization, rewire your brain and get you to your goals.
